The lion's share of content in Voluminous Energy is in the Aluminum tiered era. Initially, when starting off, you'll need to gather a few resources and craft a few machines before you can easily navigate through most of Voluminous Energy's content.
Early gameplay goals
To start off, you'll need a power (FE) source, a Crusher to crush materials for further processing, and an Electrolyzer to perform that further processing for certain materials. So your goals should include:
- (Optional) Crafting a Primitive Blast Furnace (5× Iron Ingots, 1× Furnace)
- Crafting a Primitive Stirling Generator (6× Iron Ingots, 2× Iron Gears, ×1 Furnace)
- Crafting a Crusher (1× Block of Iron, 1× Iron Gear, 2× Iron Ingots, 2× Stone Gears)
- Crafting an Electrolyzer (1× Block of Iron, 3× Iron Ingots, 2× Redstone Dust, 1× Microchip, 2× Stone Gears)
All in all, you'll need 44 Iron Ingots to craft all these machines including dependent items (such as Gears, Blocks, etc), 2 Furnaces, 4 Stone Gears (16 stone or cobblestone), and the Electrolyzer also requires 6 Redstone Dust (4 for the Microchip), 4 Silicon (1 block of Sand), and a Gold Ingot (with Voluminous Energy only you won't have access to Silver without at least one Electrolyzer).
Primitive Blast Furnace
In early gameplay, one of the first things that you should consider crafting is the Primitive Blast Furnace. Even before you get into any other tech in Voluminous Energy, a Primitive Blast Furnace can improve your Quality of Life by doubling the burn time of the Coal that you obtain. This is useful for furnaces and also in Stirling generators once you craft one for Forge Energy (FE) production.
Primitive Stirling Generator
The Primitive Stirling Generator is really your only choice at the beginning to get some FE up and running. It has reduced FE/t production compared to the regular Stirling Generator, and the overburn protection isn't very good compared to any other combustion-based energy-producing machine in Voluminous Energy. Once you have a decent amount of Aluminum (from processing Bauxite) and Carbon, you should consider upgrading your Primitive Stirling Generator to a non-primitive one.
Crusher
Once you have Forge Energy (FE) that can be used, you should craft a Crusher. The Crusher can provide you with more ore resources than if cooked in a furnace, usually either 1⅓× or 2×.
Electrolyzer
In order to craft Aluminum-tier machines, you'll need an Electrolyzer to process Bauxite, Cinnabar, Galena, Rutile, Copper Carbonate Dust to separate out the different elements. This should be crafted after the Crusher, as most of your inputs (aside from buckets) will need to be in dust form.
