Alpha 2 is the biggest change to Voluminous Energy's world generation since 1.18. It adds:

Latest revision as of 12:20, 15 October 2026

This page covers Voluminous Energy's feature generation for the 0.5 Alpha 2 releases: 1.21.1-0.5 Alpha 2, 26.1.2-0.5 Alpha 2 and 26.2-0.5 Alpha 2 (all NeoForge, released 12 October 2026). The tables show the 1.21.1-0.5 Alpha 2 data.

Alpha 2 adds:

  • Crude Oil and Natural Gas reservoirs: large underground bodies of oil or gas laid out like vanilla aquifers,
  • Crude Oil and Natural Gas caves: small cave systems completely filled with oil or gas,
  • Bituminous Sand, Bituminous Red Sand and Bituminous Gravel: the blocks that seal reservoirs, petroleum caves and oil lakes. They can be crushed for Bitumen.

It also changes the Crude Oil lakes:

  • Surface lakes are now ringed with bituminous blocks.
  • Underground lakes are now sealed pockets completely filled with Crude Oil (ve_fluid_deposit_feature). They are never placed where they would break into a cave or aquifer, and they only generate between Y -32 and 47 (previously anywhere from -64 to 320).

The ore blob and ore deposit settings are unchanged from 0.5 Alpha 1.

ReleaseDifference
1.21.1-0.5 Alpha 2The petroleum cave carvers are added at the air carving step.
26.1.2-0.5 Alpha 2, 26.2-0.5 Alpha 2Carvers no longer have a step in Minecraft 26.1+, so the modifier only lists the carvers.
26.2-0.5 Alpha 2The core of Cinnabar deposits is vanilla's minecraft:cinnabar block (same as 26.2 Alpha 1).

Biome modifiers

Reading the biome modifier table

Each biome modifier is a JSON file in data/voluminousenergy/neoforge/biome_modifier/ using Voluminous Energy's anded_biome_modifier:

  • Whitelisted biome tags: a biome must be in every listed tag.
  • Blacklisted biome tags: a biome in any listed tag is skipped.
  • Count: placement attempts per chunk.
  • Rarity: each attempt only goes ahead on average once every rarity chunks. 0 and 1 both mean every time.
  • Triangular placement: if enabled, heights between the anchors are biased towards the middle of the range, as with vanilla's diamond and redstone. Otherwise they are uniform.
  • Bottom/Top anchor: absolute Y levels.

Ore deposit features

Ore deposits are lake-shaped pockets: the inside is the raw block of the resource, and the edge is the ore block where it meets stone. If "Disallow surface ore deposits" is enabled in the common config, deposits are not placed where they can see the sky.
