Theme-aware styling and dark mode for MediaWiki 1.47 (site-pages/Feature_generation_1.16.5_and_earlier.wiki)

New page

This page covers Voluminous Energy's feature generation for 1.16.5 (0.2), and the earlier 1.16.3+ (0.1) and 1.15.2 (0.0) releases. All values are the defaults of the common config file (
voluminousenergy-common.toml
) and can be changed there.

Technical background
These versions add features to biomes in code with Forge's
BiomeLoadingEvent
(1.16) or by looping over the biome registry (1.15.2). Ores use vanilla's range placement, which picks the height as
bottom offset + random(maximum height − top offset)
. This means the effective height range is not simply "bottom offset to maximum height", so both are given below.

Ore blob features
+ Ore blob placement (1.16.5-0.2)
Ore !! Biomes !! Count per chunk ("Weight") !! Bottom offset !! Top offset !! Maximum height !! Effective Y range !! Size
Saltpeter || Desert category, Badlands, Eroded Badlands || 4 || 55 || 55 (see note) || 256 || 55 to 255 || 33
Bauxite || rowspan="4" | Any Overworld biome || 16 || 10 || 0 || 60 || 10 to 69 || 8
Cinnabar || 9 || 1 || 0 || 256 || 1 to 255 || 6
Galena || 3 || 12 || 0 || 32 || 12 to 43 || 6
Rutile || 3 || 1 || 0 || 16 || 1 to 16 || 4
Eighzo || The End || 1 || 1 || 0 || 36 || 1 to 36 || 4

Notes:
* Saltpeter replaces Sand and Red Sand, but always places regular Saltpeter Ore (Red Saltpeter Ore was added in 1.18.1). The other overworld ores replace blocks in the
minecraft:base_stone_overworld
tag. Eighzo replaces End Stone.
* Saltpeter passes its bottom offset as the top offset too, so its range ends at 255 (the world height limit), not 310.
* Rutile reads Bauxite's "Height Offset" setting instead of its own. Both default to 0, so this only matters if you change one of them.
* There is no "Exposed Discard Chance" in these versions. It was added in 1.18.1.

Differences in older releases
Release !! Differences from 1.16.5-0.2
1.16.3+ (0.1) || No Eighzo and no Rice. Every ore passes its bottom offset as the top offset, so the effective range is bottom offset to maximum height − 1 (for example Bauxite 10 to 59).
1.15.2 (0.0) || No Eighzo and no Rice. Ores use vanilla's count-range placement with a top offset of 0, so the effective ranges match 1.16.5 (Bauxite 10 to 69, Galena 12 to 43, Rutile 1 to 16). Saltpeter is limited to Desert, Badlands and Eroded Badlands.

Crude Oil features
Feature !! Placement !! Default chance !! Generation step
Crude Oil lake || Vanilla's lava lake placement || 80 ("Oil Lake Chance") || Lakes
Crude Oil geyser || Vanilla's lava lake placement || 2520 ("Oil Geyser Chance") || Lakes
Both are added to every biome except the Nether and the End. With the lava lake placement, a higher number means a rarer feature. Vanilla lava lakes use 80, so oil lakes are about as common as lava lakes, and geysers are much rarer. There is only one oil lake type in these versions. Separate surface and underground lakes were introduced in 1.17.1.

Rice
Rice (1.16.5-0.2 only) generates with 32 placement attempts per chunk ("Rice Chance") between Y 0 and 256, in every biome except the Nether, the End and oceans. Ocean generation can be turned on with "Generate Rice in Oceans" (added in 1.16.5-0.2.1.0).
